Day 1: Arrival in Lhasa
Arrival pick-up service: Our staff will greet you at Lhasa airport/railway station to transfer you to your hotel. From Lhasa airport to downtown Lhasa, it usually takes around 1.5 hours and about 20 minutes from Lhasa railway station. After you have transferred to the hotel, you will have the rest of the day free to wander around the city on your own. However, try not to wear yourself out – a well-rested first day is crucial to acclimatise to the high altitude. Remember to drink lots of water, eat light and not to shower if you can help it. For our free Lhasa airport/railway transfer information, please check the inclusions.
Hotel: Lhasa Gang-Gyan Hotel Tibet or similar (4-star), no meals included.
Day 2: Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery On day two, you will visit two attractions in the Lhasa suburb. In the morning, we will arrange for you to see the Drepung Monastery and in the afternoon, we will visit the Sera Monastery. You will spend a long period of time sightseeing under the hot sun of Tibet, so ensure you are equipped with sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen and water. A welcome dinner will also be held tonight in order to introduce you to the group that you will be travelling with. We have customers from around the world, so it will be a great opportunity to meet people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds.
Located about 8km west of central Lhasa, is Drepung Monastery. The word Drepung literally translates as ‘rice heap’, which is a reference to the huge numbers of white, monastic buildings that once existed on the hill side. Sera Monastery is located in the northern suburb of Lhasa City. The monastery was named Sera which means wild rose in the Tibetan language, as the hill behind it was covered with wild roses in bloom when the monastery was built. From Monday to Friday every afternoon, you will be able to see monks debating at the Sera Monastery.

At the top the palace you can visit the golden roofs and have a bird’s-eye view of Lhasa. In the distance there are mountain ranges, the beautiful Lhasa river, tracts of fields, tree-shaded villages and the glistening Jokhang Temple. This will be followed by an afternoon visit to the Jokhang Temple, which features Buddhist prayer wheels and golden sutra streamers. You will find that many pilgrims pray in front of the monastery. The area around the temple is called Barkhor Street, a famous local, handmade crafts market, which is a good place to purchase souvenirs.

Namtso Lake means “holy lake” in the Tibetan language and it is the highest salt lake. In the early summer, flocks of wild ducks fly to inhabit here and breed their offspring. Wild animals such as black bears, yaks, wild donkeys, foxes, roe deer and marmots can often be found around the lake and you can do some trekking at the lake side. On the way back to Lhasa, we can visit Yampachen Hot Spring, (entry fee: CNY 40 per person; bathing fee: around CNY 50-98 per person for different pools), at your own expense if the whole group agrees. Yangbajain lies just south of the Nyainqêntanglha mountains, famous for the Yangbajain hot springs.
