Yu garden
YuyuanGarden is a famous classical garden located in Anren Jie, Shanghai. The garden was finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan. Yu in Chinese means pleasing and satisfying, and this garden was specially built for Pan's parents as a place for them to enjoy a tranquil and happy time in their old age.

The bund
Located along the HuangpuRiver, the Bund shows off Shanghai's outstanding foreign buildings, most of which were erected before 1937. To the Europeans, the Bund was Shanghai's answer to Wall Street. In the 1930s, the string of buildings hosted the city's financial and commercial centers, and the world's greatest banks and trading empires established a base here.

The jade Buddha
In the western part of Shanghai, a very modern and flourishing city, there is a venerable and famous Buddhist temple, JadeBuddhaTemple. In 1882, an old temple was built to keep two jade Buddha statues which had been brought from Burma by a monk named Huigen. The temple was destroyed during the revolution that overthrew the Qing Dynasty. Fortunately the jade Buddha statues were saved and a new temple was built on the present site in 1928.

Shanghai people's square
During 1930s and 1940s, the present People's Square was once the gambling house and the racecourse honored as the "No.1 racecourse in Far East". the ruins of the former main building stands the northeast part of People Square. The former Shanghai Library once occupied the former main building of the racecourse. After the People's Republic of China was founded, the racecourse was rebuilt as the People's Park on the north side and the People's Square on the south part. From time to time, People's Square becomes the political and commercial center of the downtown. |

Shanghai museum
Shanghai Museum possesses a collection of 120,000 preciousworks of art. Its rich and high-quality collection of ancient Chinese bronze, ceramics, painting and calligraphy is specially celebrated in the world. Founded and first open to the public in the building previously of the horseracing club at 325 W. Nanjing Road in 1952 and then moved into the former ZhonghuiBuilding at 16 S. Henan Road in 1959.
